Meryem Alaoui will be sharing and facilitating weekly somatic exploration classes online through movement, touch, voice, games, improvisation and embodied anatomy studies. This is open to anyone who has a body and who likes to move.
We will explore different body systems, including the skeleton, organs, endocrine system, nervous system, our internal fluids, our fascia and connective tissues, and learn to differentiate between each tissue or system through our senses and perception to embody the qualities inherent to each, in order to support our being, our dancing, our moving and our creative self as a whole.
Classes will be offered in English with some French translation for those who need/desire it.
Les cours seront donnés essentiellement en anglais, avec des bouts traduits en français pour ceux.celles qui en ont besoin/qui le préfère.

Meryem Alaoui is a dancer-choreographer from Morocco, living in Toronto. She’s the founder of Jasad Dance Projects, a not-for-profit aiming at increasing the visibility and representation of dance artists from the MENA region. Influenced by her studies of Body-Mind Centering®, her work is often an invitation towards a softer, more sensorial and felt experience of dance.
A graduate of the School of Toronto Dance Theatre, she has danced for multiple choreographers in Toronto. Her choreography has been shown in Ontario, Quebec and Morocco. Her latest project ‘Ensemble’, a dance creation of with collaborators from Morocco, Canada and Switzerland, was presented in May 2022 in Rabat, Morocco. Upcoming projects include a new creation for 7 women from the MENA region, called “Sand Bodies”.
Meryem has received residency support nationally and internationally, and project funding from the Canada Council for the Arts, the Ontario and Toronto Arts Councils.
She is also involved in community and arts-education projects such as with Arts Etobicoke, Dreamwalker Dance and The Arab Community Centre of Toronto.
Meryem graduated as Body-Mind Centering® Somatic Movement Educator in 2022 and has been offering BMC and somatic exploration classes online and in-person in Toronto and Morocco. www.fluidsoma.com
